A Low-Profile Wideband Circularly Polarized Metasurface Antenna Based on Characteristic Mode Theory

A novel low-profile wideband circularly polarized metasurface (MTS) antenna is proposed. The characteristic mode analysis used to investigate the operating mechanism of MTS antenna. Then, desired modes are chosen and excited by annular ring slot combined with an L-shaped microstrip line. Simulation studies revealed that this type feeding structure effectively excites accomplish circular polarization high-gain radiation. Experimental results show has both wide impedance bandwidth (IBW) axial ratio (ARBW), a maximum radiation gain 9.3 dBi −10 dB relative IBW 3 ARBW 39.8% 30%, respectively.
